Karen, I am amazed at where a google search will take me. I was looking up Daedalea quercina (reason below), and I find a reference to UUs because you looked up "labyrinthal". I am a lifelong UU. And once upon a time I was a "nature teacher" for Mass. Audubon.

Two days ago, On an oak stump, I spotted a SILVER round flat "thing" that I figured could only be a fungus. I checked in my several mushroom books. Nothing about a silver mushroom. Today I returned and found that the silver was broken up, more grayish, and the flat thing had humped up. Breaking it apart with a stick, it looked exactly like chocolate, more like fudge than cake. No sign of a "maze" or labyrinth. Maybe I am seeing the Brown Rot of D quercina.

Thanks, Tom!

Karen - that would be lovely. (These photos were taken at Bergman Park... I'll walk with you anywhere, though... Audubon? College Park? Bergman? Audubon owns a second property over on Bentley off of Fluvanna. You name it.)
