Mothers’ Day Wildflower Tradition

Jack Gulvin will lead the annual spring wildflower walk at Jamestown Audubon’s Bentley Sanctuary on Bentley Road off Fluvanna Avenue – near Strunk Road.  Sunday, May 10, 2009 2:00pm.  I’ve been tramping around in there the last couple of weeks.  Here are some of the things I have found:

  • Red Trillium
  • White Trillium
  • Trout Lily
  • Spring Beauties
  • Hepatica
  • Blue Cohosh
  • purple violets
  • yellow violets
  • Wild Black CurrantRunning Strawberry Bush
  • Marsh Marigold
  • Small-flowered Crowfoot
  • 2 kinds of currant (garden and wild black)
  • Solomon’s Seal
  • Toothwort
  • Cut-leaved Toothwort
  • Foam Flower
  • Cuckoo Flower
  • Garlic Mustard
  • Jack-in-the-Pulpit
  • Skunk Cabbage
  • False Hellabore
