It took me a while to motivate myself to get off the couch and into the woods to see what might be blooming yesterday. My sore throat had gotten worse, and the nose was running, eyes tearing, etc… Thankfully, the sunny skies, lack of wind, and eager dog got the better of me and off I went.
Trout Lily (Erythronium americanum)
Bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadensis)
White Trillium (Trillium grandiflora)
Cut-leaved Toothwort (Dentaria laciniata)
Dutchman’s Breeches (Dicentra cucullaria)
Red Trillium (Trillium erectum)
Blue Cohosh (Caulophyllum thalictroides)
Sharp-lobed Hepatica (Hepatica acutiloba)
I love spring wildflowers… They make me forget I have a cold…
She calls herself Winter Woman, ladies and gentlemen, but the truth is she really should just be called Nature Chick.

Wow, what a beautiful group of flowers! Your photos are excellent1
My bloodroot is 3 weeks early.I tromped and splashed around at Allegany today for a couple of hours. Saw lots but none of the beautiful little saxifrage. Must get better directions I guess.
I think I should just take you there.
Lovely!!
I came over from A Spattering to see your flowers and I’m not dissappointed. They’re beautiful. You have much different ones than we have here in Wyoming. Thanks so much for sharing.
Wonderful photos, as usual. I especially love the hepatica and bloodroot shots. Hope you’re feeling better, and the fresh air helped!
I live in Western New York and today while out in the woods i saw this beautiful yellow flower! i had to turn back and bend down to take a much closer look at it because its absolute beauty and oddly speckeled leaves had caught my eye. So here I am on the internet trying to find it, I get sidetracked, stumble upon your site, get interested because we’re from the same area and the fungi book intrigued me (i seem to take interest in growths like that, they’re pretty in their own unique way), and then bam! there is the flower that i was trying to find! the Trout Lily! I like this site! I’m going to check back frequently! It is already saved in my favorites! Thanks!!!
You are very welcome. I write this blog for purely selfish reasons. But I am delighted when others find it useful. Check out this whole post devoted to Trout Lilies:
