It rained this morning. As the clouds thinned, the light became perfect for photography, so I headed down to Audubon to see if the adorable Yellow Warblers were out by the overlook again (and to practice using my 100-400mm lens). They were… taking inchworm after inchworm to a nest that was hidden from view.
I watched for quite a long time and was also treated to a Swamp Sparrow singing his little heart out.
The Red-winged Blackbirds who are also nesting in the shrubs would not pose nicely for pictures. Other wildlife along my path did, however…
Eastern Garter Snake in one of the Woodpecker Holes in the Dead Elm Tree
Tadpoles in the pond along the maintenance road
And, back at the building:
Great pics! I just saw that little yellow warbler (or one much like him/her) last Sunday, also at the overlook. I’ve never been that close to one before.

Hello Winter Women,
Stunning photographs, I can see that I’ve got a lot to learn.

Thank you, John, for clicking by. After purusing your blog (and adding it to my blogroll), I think you might enjoy my Walking blog, where I post (what I like to think is) better writing…

What a fun walk with you. Glad you had your new lens along! What a perfect photo of the swamp sparrow. ~karen
Was it John Muir who said something like: In every walk with nature you get more than you expected… (It’s something like that and I don’t know if it was Muir… but the point is, I went for the Warbler and was delighted by the Sparrow!)
my personal favorite is the snake!!!
Great photos all – I especially like the Yellow Warbler w/a snack
Super shots! That new lens is a gem. I love to take walks as you do and discover. Sometimes I don’t even have to take a walk — my backyard is filled with interesting visitors!
