I awoke to snow on Tuesday morning and I was (to borrow a phrase from Karen Eckstrom) irrationally happy. I come alive in winter. The air is fresh and crisp – not heavy and humid. I sweat only from exertion, not from merely sitting. There are no bugs pestering my ears and neck. And the world is pure and clean. I decided to get to work early so I could start the day with a walk.
The light changed several times during the walk, the sun peeping out sometimes, then clouds dumping more snow at others. Here are the pictures I took in the order I took them so you can walk with me:
OK, now get to work!

Wonderful! Some nice shots!
Almost like being there…
i, too come alive in winter and loved walking your first winter snow. we have so precious little here that i always am like a kid when it comes! lovely photos… as always. i could almost hear that wonderful winter silence.
So beautiful! I come alive in winter, too. Makes me really love living in New England.
The beauty is awe inspiring. Thanks for the walk.
I’ve always considered the first day it snows to be my personal holiday. I, too, am always exhilarated with the first snow — actually, with every snow! And I love the winter nighttime skies too — so crystal clear and Orion reigning overhead.
What a nice walk. I hope you were wrapped up warm.
Wonderful photos as always. It was a beautiful snow this week.
We’ve had a dusting here, nothing like you had. Small ponds are starting to freeze at night but so far have melted again. I’m not a huge fan of winter but I love seeing the first snows.
